I learned about Samaritan Ministries a year before getting married, when I was getting booted from my parents' insurance (and was yet unmarried--that was a fun reality check). A friend had researched Samaritan Ministries and their competitors, and we both found SM to be the preferable provider. Basically it's an alternative to traditional insurance. It is not classified as an insurance company, but operates in a very similar manner.
