Samaritan Ministries: Our Christian Healthcare Provider
Couldn't have had the same home birth experiences without them.
I learned about Samaritan Ministries a year before getting married, when I was getting booted from my parents' insurance (and was yet unmarried--that was a fun reality check). A friend had researched Samaritan Ministries and their competitors, and we both found SM to be the preferable provider. Basically it's an alternative to traditional insurance. It is not classified as an insurance company, but operates in a very similar manner.
- Because it is a Christian-based organization, and you have to agree to the statement of faith and standards in the contract and they do not cover--and therefore members don't have to pay for-- procedures or treatments for things that don't align with Christian values, e.g. abortion, gender transition surgeries, etc.
- Shares go directly to a family with a need. You know who it's going to and what the need was, and have the opportunity to pray for them, and send an encouraging note. Having been on the receiving end of this many times after my births, it's so encouraging to get notes months after with people saying that they are praying for baby and I.
One of the main reasons that we decided to stay with Samaritan Ministries after my husband and I got married is because their maternity coverage is fantastic. We are on the classic plan
